Friends of Bay Area Turning Point
is a group of people who help BATP to promote community awareness, the mission of the agency and fundraising activities. Friends of BATP work with BATP staff members and with the oversight of the BATP President and CEO. Friends of BATP is a great way to get to know others and to build your social capital. Members of the Friends of BATP may be community members who want to demonstrate support for the mission of the Agency, board members (past and present), business owners, civic group representatives, government representatives and/or volunteers who work in a day-to-day role within the Agency (i.e., hotline advocates; resale shop assistants; childcare providers; clerical specialist; interns, etc.).
We ask our Friends to act as ambassadors for BATP in their circle of friends and family, their business, their church and at community activities. We ask our Friends to learn about BATP and the issues of family violence and sexual assault as much as possible to develop their capacity to serve positively as an extension of the Agency to our community. Therefore, Friends are invited to attend Agency trainings and workshops at no charge. We ask our Friends to ensure that everyone they know is given an opportunity to learn about and to support Bay Area Turning Point.
Friends may also elect to help BATP with its special projects and events. Activities include helping with fundraising events, manning community awareness exhibits, assisting during our two annual Food Drives, collecting treats and gifts for the women and children in the Agency’s Shelter program, helping women in Shelter to have a memorable Mother’s Day, decorating the Shelter at Christmas, and collecting funds for a special purchase that the group decides to help the Agency obtain. For example, in 2009, the Friends collected funds to purchase two sets of washers and dryers for the Shelter. Annually, The Friends have chosen to do a Back To School Back Pack Drive.
Friends can be anyone who shares an interest in BATP in any capacity. To become a Friend, attend one of the scheduled Volunteer Orientations or if you have any questions, please call 281-338-7600.
Meeting and event dates are announced to The Friends electronically. Meetings are generally held once per quarter but committees may meet more often in order to accomplish their objectives.
Consider being a Friend of BATP today and help Bay Area Turning Point to save and change thousands of broken lives. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead
